Root Canal Treatment and Steps Involved

Are you scared of root canal treatment or rather want to know what happens in a root canal? Obviously, it is your tooth and you should know the facts before proceeding with the treatment. The team of the basil dental clinic in Gurgaon has tried to explain to you the steps involved in the entire RCT procedure.

Root canal treatment - step by step

root canal is one of the most common treatments done across and no doubt it's the most effective one. It should be executed with high precision to ensure its success. The dentist needs to clean out the infected pulp and fill the canals. It's highly required that all roots of the infected tooth are cleaned and filled. Patients usually need a temporary crown after the procedure to ensure its long term success. Go over each of the steps.

Preparing the area

The process starts with local anaesthesia to ensure a painless treatment experience. Once the area is numbed, a dental dam is placed in the mouth.

Clean the roots

As a next step in the root canal treatment, the dentist accesses the roots canals and pulp chamber and cleans them. It's important to ensure that the roots are accurately determined and all of them are clean. Even if one of them is left uncleaned, it may lead to the failure of the entire procedure. The dentist uses devices to clean out the pulp chamber and canals detection. A high-quality antibacterial and antiseptic solution are used to clean and disinfect the canals ensuring bacteria elimination.

Canals Shaping

Now comes filling which is extremely important to ensure the spread of infections. The dentist shaped the tooth in such a way that the fillings can sit properly inside the tooth.

Filling the canals

The dentist will use gutta-percha to fill the canals. This rubber-like material is placed inside the canals and then heated. The dentist compresses it, so it fits snuggly against the walls. The dentist adds adhesive cement to further seal the canals. Properly sealed canals keep bacteria out.

Sealing access hole

The hole used to access the canals must be sealed. The filling prevents bacteria from entering the tooth. A post might be required if the tooth is severely damaged and cannot support restoration on its own.

Placing the crown

A crown imparts significant strength and ensures that the infection is prevented. A custom made crown is placed around the treated tooth for added strength and stability. The permanent crown is fabricated in a dental laboratory to match the existing teeth. This is the last and final step of root canal treatment.
