What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Knocked-out adult tooth: Handle by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently — do not scrub. Place in milk or saline, or hold between your cheek and gum. Get to the dentist within 30–60 minutes. Speed is critical — the sooner we see you, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Dental abscess: Do not attempt to drain it yourself. Cold compress on the outside of the jaw reduces swelling. Call us immediately — abscess is a serious infection that can spread.
Lost crown or filling: Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until your appointment. Avoid biting on that side.
Severe toothache: Over-the-counter pain relief (ibuprofen or paracetamol) can help temporarily. Call us and come in — pain is your body telling you something is wrong that will only get worse without treatment.
