Dental crowns and porcelain veneers in Gurgaon by MDS Prosthodontist at Basil Dental Clinic

Dental Crowns & Veneers in Gurgaon

Dental crowns and veneers are the two most versatile restorative and cosmetic treatments in dentistry. At Basil Dental Clinic, Sector 82A, Gurgaon, all crown and veneer work is performed by Dr. Naveen Yadav, MDS Prosthodontist — a postgraduate specialist in tooth restoration and dental prosthetics.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a cap that completely covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its original shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are cemented in place permanently and function just like natural teeth. They are typically recommended after root canal treatment, for severely broken or decayed teeth, to protect cracked teeth, or to improve the appearance of heavily stained or misshapen teeth.

What Is a Dental Veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or composite resin bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Veneers are primarily cosmetic — they correct discolouration, chips, minor misalignment, and gaps. Unlike crowns, veneers cover only the front of the tooth and require minimal removal of natural tooth structure.

Types of Crowns Available at Basil Dental

  • Zirconia crowns — Metal-free, highly durable, excellent aesthetics. The standard for front and back teeth. Rs. 8,000–12,000 per crown.
  • PFM crowns (Porcelain Fused to Metal) — Porcelain outside, metal inside. Strong and cost-effective. Rs. 5,000–8,000 per crown.
  • E-max (IPS e.max) crowns — Premium all-ceramic crown with outstanding light-transmitting properties. Best choice for front teeth demanding natural-looking aesthetics. Rs. 10,000–15,000 per crown.
  • Full metal crowns — Most durable option for back molars where aesthetics are less important. Rs. 3,000–5,000 per crown.

The Crown Placement Process

1. Tooth preparation — The tooth is shaped to accommodate the crown. Local anaesthesia ensures comfort.

2. Impression — A digital or physical impression is taken and sent to the dental lab.

3. Temporary crown — A temporary crown is placed while the permanent one is fabricated (usually 5–7 working days).

4. Permanent placement — The crown is checked for fit, bite, and shade before being permanently cemented.

Dental Veneers at Basil Dental

Porcelain veneers at Basil Dental are fabricated at premium dental labs to ensure consistency in shade and translucency. The process involves two appointments: tooth preparation and impression, followed by veneer placement and bonding. Most cases take 1–2 weeks from start to finish.

Composite veneers can often be completed in a single appointment. They are less expensive than porcelain but less durable. Dr. Yadav will recommend the right material for your specific case.

After Root Canal: Why You Need a Crown

After root canal treatment, a tooth becomes more brittle and is at risk of cracking under biting forces. A crown protects the treated tooth and extends its life significantly. Skipping the crown after a root canal is one of the most common reasons for root canal failure — the tooth cracks before the investment pays off. At Basil Dental, we always discuss crown placement as part of root canal treatment planning.

How long does a dental crown last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, zirconia and e.max crowns typically last 15–20 years or longer. PFM crowns usually last 10–15 years. The longevity depends on the crown material, bite forces, and your oral hygiene habits. Grinding teeth significantly reduces crown lifespan — ask us about a night guard if you grind.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The tooth preparation is done under local anaesthesia and is painless. After the anaesthesia wears off, mild sensitivity or soreness is normal for 1–2 days. Once the permanent crown is placed, it should feel comfortable and natural within a few days as you adjust to the new bite.

Can a crown be placed on the same day?

Same-day crowns using CEREC or CAD/CAM technology require in-house milling equipment. At Basil Dental, crowns are fabricated at specialist dental labs for superior fit, finish, and durability — this takes 5–7 days. We provide a temporary crown in the interim so you are never without tooth coverage.
